Award Guidelines
Eligibility and Nomination Requirements
Please note that this award is for regular, affiliate faculty, and residents of Dell Medical School
Nominations can be made by self, students, residents, or faculty members. Up to three awards will be given. (Note: If you nominate a Faculty Member, it is your responsibility to notify them of their nomination and of the criteria necessary to receive this award.)
Faculty members or residents nominated for this award should engage in teaching practices that promote health equity for patients or populations, e.g.,
- Explicitly addresses the root causes of health inequities either in the classroom or through patient care
- Seeking to reduce health care disparities
- Treating all patients and families with kindness and respect
- Discussing population-based care;
- Encouraging trainees and students to consider social determinants of health
- Reinforcing the effective use of interpreting services
- Encourages actions by students and/or residents to improve health care access, quality, patient experiences and outcomes
- Promotes students' or residents' ability to speak up on topics of health equity
Criteria for Selection
- Specific examples of how this impacts student, trainees and colleagues.
- Evidence from peer-review of teaching
- Evidence from student/resident evaluation of teaching
- Writings for medical journals, texts, or blogs on health equity
