Cain Collaboration Awardees
Please join us in celebrating two Cain Awardee teams who will be supported for two years, from 1/1/2024-1/31/2026, with funds totaling $30,000!
- James Matthew Hubley, DO (Assistant Professor, Department of Population Health and Department of Internal Medicine, Dell Medical School, and Ascension physician), Tim Mercer, MD, MPH, FACP (Assistant Professor, Chief of the Division of Global Health, Department of Population Health and Department of Internal Medicine), will investigate "Community Health Workers Addressing transitions of Care for Hospitalized patients experiencing Homelessness (CATCHH)."
- Adrienne Dula, PhD (Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology), and Mariana Georgeta Varga, MD (Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology and Ascension physician), will investigate "Laterality of Glymphatic System and Implications for Parkinson's Disease Symptom Presentation."
HTRI Pilot Awardees
Dr. Rousseau’s project, “Identifying and Extracting Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) from Clinical Notes.” will work to identify, annotate, and classify references to SDoH in clinical notes by electronic health record review, and further design and extract meaningful SDoH using natural language processing tools.
Dr. Parekh will pursue “Characterizing Neighborhood “Hot Spots” at High Risk for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease-Related Acute Care Use in Travis County, Texas.” Through this work, a clear understanding of the geographic variation of acute care use for COPD exacerbations will be generated to provide an epidemiological blueprint of COPD morbidity.
