HTRI Grants

HTRI Pilot Project Program Grants (up to $12,500 total costs) are intended to support pilot studies, with a special emphasis on those projects that are beyond the feasibility stage but still require preliminary data (e.g., measure development, piloting of measures, etc.) to develop a competitive extramural proposal to support the conduct of a larger study.

Eligibility

Faculty with primary appointment at Dell Medical School, clinical or PhD postdoctoral fellows with additional application materials*.

Dell Medical School’s Health Transformation Research Institute (HTRI) and Ascension Seton Healthcare are pleased to announce a funding opportunity made possible by the Cain Foundation. The purpose of this opportunity is to provide seed funding for the collection of pilot data to be used to pursue external funding opportunities.

Overview

Support one to two-year collaborative research projects between one Ascension Seton clinicians or clinical fellows (MD, DO) and one (UT Austin) Dell Medical School faculty.
Support research projects that hold promise of near-term clinical application and community impact
Provide support to develop collaborations and key preliminary data to support the development of an extramural proposal

Details

Two pilot grants with a one to two-year(s) funding period will be awarded. The maximum budget is $15-30k over two years.

Awards are intended to:
• Support research projects that hold promise of near-term clinical application and community impact

• Support one to two-year collaborative research projects between Ascension Seton clinicians or clinical fellows (MD, DO) and (UT Austin)
Dell Medical School faculty

• Provide support to develop collaborations and key preliminary data to support the development of an extramural proposal

Thanks to a generous donation by Ken Shine, MD, there are additional celebrations of excellence in research and research mentorship. The Ken Shine Excellence in Research and Research Mentorship Awards are a celebration of investigation and inquiry at Dell Medical School. Collectively, these four awards seek to elevate exemplar examples of rigorous research and researchers at Dell Medical School.

Three 'Excellence in Research' trainee categories include:

  • Pre-doctoral student (medical and/or graduate students)
  • Post-doctoral clinical trainee (residents or clinical fellows)
  • Post-doctoral non-clinical trainee (primary research fellows)

and applicants can have any primary academic affiliation as long as the research has been carried out under the supervision of a faculty member who has a primary or joint appointment at the Dell Medical School. Check back here to apply for the Shine Excellence in Research Award.

The Excellence in Research Mentorship Award will recognize one faculty member with a primary or joint academic appointment at the Dell Medical School for outstanding trainee mentorship. Applications consist of a letter of nomination from a trainee at any level.
