Pediatric Advocacy Grant Program

Purpose: The purpose of this grant initiative is to promote and support innovative advocacy scholarship designed, implemented, and evaluated by medical students and trainees in the Department of Pediatrics at Dell Medical School.

Eligibility: The project lead must be a medical student or trainee (resident or fellow) in the Department of Pediatrics. A faculty member must serve as co-lead.

Additional team members can include faculty members, medical students, trainees, or other members of the Department of Pediatrics or the University of Texas at the time of application and funding of the grant. Multidisciplinary teams are encouraged.

Projects may include any area of scholarship that focuses on advancing the health and wellbeing of children through pediatric advocacy. This may include implementation of an advocacy project, strengthening advocacy skills within the department, or enhancing community partnerships in advocacy. Funding should be used to cover direct costs only.

Funding:

  • $1000 - $5000
  • 2 - 5 grants funded annually

Timeline:

  • Application deadline is March 31, 2025.
  • Project review and funding announcements by May 31, 2025.
  • Once per year, with funds to be administered July-June of an academic year. For the first year, projects will start in May and continue through the conclusion of the following academic year.

Grant Application & Selection:

  • Application guidelines
    • Applicants should be trainees within the Department of Pediatrics at the time of application and funding. A Department of Pediatrics faculty member must serve as a co-lead. Applications will be submitted to Advocacy Committee Education Pillar team leads.
    • Applications are due in the spring with funds to be distributed in July.
    • Applicants will be asked to summarize their project, provide a budget for funds requested, and highlight the potential impact on advocacy in the Department and larger community in the grant application.

    • Applications will be reviewed and scored using a standardized rubric by Health Care Teams/Workforce Domain Leads. Grantees will be notified in late Spring of the award decision.
