4th Annual Pediatric Research Symposium (2025)

The Department of Pediatrics is proud to announce the 4th Annual Pediatric Research Symposium.
When: Wed, April 2, 2025
Where: Dell Children's Signe Auditorium and Zoom
Time: 12:00pm - 6:00pm
Tentative Agenda:
12:00pm - 1:00pm: Keynote Speaker, TBD
1:00pm - 3:30pm: Selected Oral Presentations and Presentations by authors accepted for oral presentations at PAS or other national spring meetings
4:30pm - 6:00pm: Poster Reception - Authors will stand with their poster to explain their work and answer questions. Score sheets will be available for attendees to mark their top choices. Poster awards will be given to the Best Student Poster (Undergraduate, Graduate, or Medical Student), Best Resident Poster, Best Fellow Poster, Best Staff Poster, and Best Faculty Poster.
Purpose: The objectives of the symposium are to highlight our department’s research, create awareness throughout the department about work done in other divisions, and provide an opportunity for trainees and faculty to present locally before presenting at national meetings.
Students, residents, fellows, and faculty were invited to submit abstracts for research and QI projects in pediatrics. Abstracts accepted as presentations will be assigned an 8-minute session followed by 2-min Q&A. Abstracts accepted as posters will be viewed at an in-person poster reception.
Abstract Categories - Abstracts may be submitted under one of the following categories.
- Advocacy
- Basic Science (lab-based, DPRI)
- Case Report
- Clinical Trials and Studies (including chart reviews)
- Community
- Education (curriculum evaluation, education program evaluation)
- Quality Improvement (PDSA cycles)
- Works in Progress
Instructions: Limit of 300 words. Up to 2 tables may be included.
RESEARCH Abstracts should be formatted with these categories:
Background and Aims
Methods or Measures
Results
Conclusions
QI PROJECT Abstracts should be formatted with these categories:
AIM STATEMENT: Each gap in quality the project wants to improve; quantified goal(s) set within specific time frame(s) for each aim.
MEASURES: Elements tracked through this project (structure, process, outcome, and/or balancing measures); goal(s) for each measure; frequency and method of tracking for each measure.
RESULTS: Graphical display of AT LEAST 3 points of de-identified aggregate data over time reflecting each project aim. Plan for using project data to drive improvement throughout the project and its subsequent organization(s). Description of project interventions (i.e., Key Driver Diagram, Process Maps, Logic Diagram).
CASE REPORT Abstracts should be formatted with these categories:

In Progress: Include current progress, expected timeline, challenges, and/or next steps
Note: Works in Progress abstracts do not need to have completed results before the Symposium. You do not need to resubmit a new abstract with completed results.
FOR TRAINEES ONLY: The Department of Pediatrics uses this review process for both the Pediatric Research Symposium and Dell Med’s GME Research Day. Please indicate your interest in presenting at one or both of these events if you are a resident, fellow, or a medical student who is submitting a project with a pediatric trainee and/or faculty. Deadline for submission to either program is Feb 11 at midnight.
